Best of all, with its 4GB and 8GB models, you can fit an enormous amount of data in a small flash drive. With the universal Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, iamaKey can be used with both PC and Macs. Hi-Speed USB 2.0 not only offers universal compatibility and cross-platform convenience, but features a hot-pluggable connection and high-speed transfer rates, and is Windows ReadyBoost™ compatible. With its eye-catching design, the iamaKey certainly stands out, but its connector (Gold SIP) is both water- and scratch-resistant, making it one of the most durable and thinnest USB keys on the market. The Gold SIP connector on the iamaKey is both water- and scratch- resistant, making it one of the thinnest and most durable flash drive choices on the market.

The design is amazing – very flat, but feels very sturdy with a very nice weight. It caused suitable “oohs” and “aahs” when I showed it around. But… and it’s a big but… This is the slowest USB drive I’ve ever had. Slower probably than the old USB 1.0 ! I’ve tried reformatting, but no… it’s just very slow. So for small files you want to backup, it’s great. For emergencies, it’s great. But if you want to copy that 30Mb Powerpoint presentation in the 10 seconds that remain before the train comes to a stop, forget it.

On the face of it, this is an excellent concept; a USB key without any of the bulk, making it a very appealing proposition for those of us who want as little bulk as possible in our pockets.
The Iamakey worked great for me… for about 3 days. Then the following day I arrived in work to find that the key simply wouldn’t work. My PC would recognise a removable drive, but it couldn’t read from it, write to it, or even format it. It was as if the disk controller within the device had failed. Even worse, I’d lost a key presentation I was working on that I was due to present that day.
Even now I am not sure what caused the key to fail. However on testing it further, it became clear that the contact between the key and any USB socket (and believe me I tried a few) was very easy to break. This “open top” design is all well and good for cutting down on size, but in my experience the reality is that it means the device doesn’t get a good, solid connection to the USB socket.
Any which way, the Cruzer 4Gb key I was using for some 2 years before (with no faults – ever!) is now back on my keychain, and I think I will steer well clear of these open-styled USB keys. After all, if you do not have complete faith in a device operating 100% of the time, you simply aren’t going to trust it or make any use of it. A shame, as this could have been a really amazing bit of kit…

very nice, shiny metal, slim and handy flash drive. a bit slower than expected.
somebody could miss the led indicating writing on flash drive, but it wouldn’t fit the design. I already got used to it.

A good looking and really solid memory stick, Mac and PC compatible. Much more sturdy than the usual cheap plastic sticks that snap every time you put them in your pocket and accidentally sit on them.
If you habitually need to copy lots of data in a real rush then this one is a bit slow but I don’t think it’s too bad for the general user.
My one big gripe with this is the ridiculous little plastic cap it comes with. After spending time designing a really sleek rugged product what possessed them to ruin it all with a flimsy cap that catches on everything and falls off. I don’t think I’ve ever come across such a badly designed cap even on the cheapest memory sticks. It wouldn’t have taken much common sense to design a matching tough metal cap that clips on firmly and fits flush with the key. The plastic cap doesn’t sit flush, it sticks out, snags on things in my pocket and looks more like I made it than part of the product. This stick is supposed to be kept on your keyring so it’s obviously going to have a bit of a tough life, in pockets, bags, dropped on tables….. The stick is easily strong enough for that but the plastic cap will get knocked off and lost. It’s transparent and almost invisible if you drop it.
Without the cap the stick is obviously vulnerable to damage so this is a serious design flaw that has to be fixed before I would recommend this product.

this is an excellent usb. the lid it comes with is a bit impractical and you will lose it immediately, although i don’t think its required. it’s a sturdy and durable usb. apparently it’s waterproof too, although i’m not willing to test it! excellent purchase, i bought it as a present for my boyfriend and i’m going to buy another one for myself.
